Back to work

I'm happy to be back at work but I'm sad.

It was a sad sight that greeted me (Nigerian phrase! or is it clause?) when I walked in to see a tribute to our colleague who was killed at Akponbon last week. She had her whole life ahead of her and a two year old kid. Apparently the car broke down and then they were attacked by area boys. She was rushed to the hospital but had lost a lot of blood and evetually passed away. She was about 30. I wasn't sure who she was (since I just started and there are so many new faces and names) until I saw her picture and I remember her introdcuing herslef to me and being genuinely interested in me and the program. She was always smiling.

Now controversial stuff is coming up because the stories are changing and eye-witness accounts are different. Whats sure is that she was attacked at Akponbon though and its sad to see that the papers did not talk about the dire state of the road in that area. There is a constant traffic Jam even at 9 in the evening because the road is in shambles. There must be 20-30 small pot-holes in just that little stretch of road between Eko Bridge, and it has been like that for ages. Even if the car does not break down, there is still a chance of getting attacked because of the traffic caused by the bad roads. You cannot even speed through to get away from robbers even of there was no one else on the road.

Whats the alternative for us underpriviledged forgotten mainlanders? Carter Brigde!! I laugh in sadness. Everyday is a win or lose game. Do I get home with my life intact or not. I pray, then I leave it to God. For how long?

Its sad that roads cannot be maintained in Nigeria. Candidates are fighting to be Governors and nothing is presently being done to provide...Electricity, Safety...even Fuel.

I'm sad that I am a Nigerian.

Itchy Ramblings

There is a kpom in Blogville. She knows herself.

Today I feel extremely well rested. I'm ready to go to work but apparently they will evacuate the building if I show up this week. Bloody wusses. A little Chicken Pox never hurt anybody. I shake my fists at them.

Staying at home is just boring. M-net day time tv is wack, come to think of it M-net is kind of wack overall but anything is better than NTA. Although I do wonder on what channel they show 'The Intern'..something like 'The Apprentice'. I also wonder if its good. I can't wait for West African Idols to start! I'm so excited about it. There's somewhere on my body itching right now but my brain cannot locate it. Oh well.

As you can see I'm rambling..but what can I do. In my whole period of sickness not one dude came to spoil me with Orange Juice or Ice-cream or Chocolate or even Flavours Shawarma. How pathetic is that. What makes your singleness as obvious as when you are really ill? It was there GLARING at me in the face, taunting me...ne ne ne ne neeeeeeeeeeeee. Shut UP and get behind me. I had you guys though, my blog pals. Even the Kpom made me laugh. What would I have done if I didn't have blogs to read even though my head was pounding and my eyes were watering. I would have been wallowing in pity but nooo I READ! Thanks guys!

I still have two more dry days to go before the weekend but it will be less dry because I know you will all update your blogs and give me lots to read about. Even the Kpom. The only person she is not fighting for is Babaalaye. Abi you want him? Babaalaye save me from shame and deny her. I'm sure your crush will not mind if you confess our love to the public. Okay there is a retarded kid on tv..I think the movie is called Kicking and screaming.....well the kid is talking way too much but theres something wrong with the transmitter upstairs so the remote control will not work unless I turn off the TV and turn it on again...don't ask me why..only in Nigeria. Okay i'll leave you guys with a poem I wrote.

The Voyage

As a stray leaf,
Torn away from its branch, what grief,
To the tune of autumn’s chime,
We float through time.

Like a droplet,
Within boundless seas, to plummet
Ocean spray after spray
We fade away.

Blogville Gist- Edition 2

Can't nobody stop me now, oh no, I've got to keep on moving. Vera that message you sent will not work! You cannot destroy my fine skin. Go and tell them it did not work!

So back to blog gist..Lets start with Vera. This girl wants my blood. I am hot, what do you want me to do abourrit? I see that you might need some counselling for the inferiority complex you seem be displaying. It’s okay girl. I’ll bring Boor boor and Bloke along so we can find the root of the problem. Remember always: JESUS LOVES YOU.

Next up is Babaalayes sizzling (or sizzled out?) love life. BabaA, what did I read? You want to throw in what? Placard ke? Lol. I know I didn’t hear right. Checkout what he is on about on his blog. You know I love you Mr B. As for your secret crush..why are you keeping us in suspense now? Do you need romance lessons from Jem

We all know the drama that occurred on Overwhemed’s blog. I think a lot of people have learnt something useful from this episode. I may not agree or even approve of some sizzling stuff on her blog but I won’t judge her and if it repulses me so much then I don't have read it. But to take up a holier than thou attitude is where the problem starts. Here are some people who were able to beautifully articulate their support Soul and Olawunmi.

Our very own Calabar girl decided to ‘trim’ her hair. Check out the Results.

Oh my home, when shall I see my home. Find out how these bloggers enjoyed their holiday in Nigeria.

Adaure took it one step further to tell us about Village Life. She also did a comprehensive report on child labour which was aired on Silverbird news last night (Friday) around 10pm. Congrats girl..when is the re-run? Thanks for the tip off (you know who you are).

Bella Naija has published her very first fashion interview. I'm PROUD of you Bella.

Adunniola has made up her mind to get rid of excess baggage. You go girl! Munirat has also decided to forget about SV.

Cherub has organised a teleconference fellowship called The Early Risers’ Call (TERC). Dial in if you are so inclined. I think it’s a great Idea.

The Okada, the Shower and the Lalle.

This weekend was very eventful. I spent most of it planning my friends shower which was on Sunday. I bought the balloons, and the presents. I downloaded the games. I planned the ‘surprise’ with the groom. I say ‘surprise’ in quotes because she knew it was happening, she just didn’t have any details. Her sister and I decided it was best we did it at her house and got her hubby to take her out and bring her back when we were good and ready. After buying the items with another friend of mine, we proceeded to the house in Lekki in a mini convoy. The turning to her house is kind of shady, as its shortly after the second roundabout on the left carriageway and sand divides the roads. It’s not an official turning but the alternative would be to drive to the third roundabout to turn all the way back so most people turn go across the sand and turn before on-coming traffic hits you. It’s not very safe. Anyway I made sure we were all clear for take off before crossing. So I took my time crossing to make sure there was no car in sight and as we crossed my cousin and I even have time to read the name of the street as we pass the sign post when we hear SMASH!

I was in shock, I had no idea what it could have been. The next thing some dude is nearly breaking my window and looking for something to hit me with. Then a whole hoard of guys flock to the car telling me to open the door. HELL NO, not with that crazed fellow in your midst. The guy had his wife and two kids on an Okada and had apparently run right into the back of the car near the tank. My friend behind said they all flew off! I can’t even begin to ask the WHY questions because they were numerous. He said he had been horning for a long time and I refused to stop….dude if it was that long a time, why didn’t you slow down? You were riding at a manic speed obviously cos I didn’t see you close to me AT ALL.

Anyways these dudes start taking their shirts off and screaming, “you must take him and his family to the hospital”…at this stage I’m getting worked up and as you know when upset I can fill river Nile. It was just the injustice of it all. But life first, I agree to take them to the hospital...while in the car, I call my dad to tell him some okada guy ran into me….SCCCCREEEECCCHHHH. “STOP this car” he said. I turn to my cousin to mouth off saying this dude isn’t even happy I’m agreeing to go to the hospital. The anger was rising.

You don’t know who I am. I am calling my people. They will take me to the hospital. Is it because I am driving an Okada?? They will send the car. But you just wait till they get here. I will show you who I am.

He proceeds to barricade the front of the car to prevent me from moving while hoping around on one leg. His children are scared and crying and the mum is upset. I try to tell her to talk sense to her husband but it seems like she’s scared of him. My dad calls to say he’s on his way while the man is gesticulating wildly outside telling me I didn’t come out from the car, then I tell him he’s not happy that I’m going along with the hospital plan and that I don’t know him. WHO THE F**K ARE YOU? At this point if I had uttered even one word, it would have been like molten lava.

A guy I know stops with his friend cos they recognize the cars and try to calm him down. At the end of the day he says he doesn’t want to go to the hospital he just wants his Okada fixed and to be settled…settled for what? Anyway my father arrives and takes them off to the hospital while

At the hospital he eventually told my dad and uncle who is a Policeman that I was using my phone and had stopped abruptly in the middle of the road then started again the stopped. Apparently the second time I stopped was when he hit me because he intially slowed down but resumed his speep because he thought I was going to let him through. They know he is yarning tales, cos that wasn't his intial story. I had to look for my phone to call my dad. LIAR LIAR pants on fire. I did not stop abruplty, am I looking for a death sentence? He hit my back, he was wrong but I'll let sleeping dogs LIE lol. He was settled which is what he wanted in the first place. I won't complain, thank God for his family's life...
Anyway I left them to it and went on to host the bridal shower because it wouldn’t be fair to just go home and mess her day up since I planned all the games etc.

I didn’t think I’d be in the mood but I settled down enough before the ‘surprise’. We set up the house and games and small chops and drinks and eventually had a good time. The guests arrived a little later and we called her husband to flash us when he got to the gate. She must have seen the cars but she was a good sport and played along lol. Congrats Eeshi! We also got a Hausa lady from Obalende to do some henna designs on the hands and feet of all the guests. Despite the emotional first half of the day, the shower was a success.

I feel tres sexy today and this lalle does get one quite a lot of attention. Somehow my hands and feet feel extra feminine.

Blogville Gist

So whats been going on in blogworld? I have some juicy gist you need to check out.

We will start with Naijaluv who has a date this weekend with the steaming Emeka. Dr O has been put on hold!!! Watch this space. Have fun this weekend girl.

Next up is our own Babaalaye. He has a crush on a blogger and refuses to spill the beans. Will he tell? maybe he will, maybe he won't.

As usual the deliciously scandalous Overwhelmed Nigerian Babe has a meme up that only .2% of blogville will attempt to respond to even though you all have been tagged. Go on blogville, don't be chicken now!

Verastic Vera will be celebrating her birthday on the 14th. You know her now, the annoying pesky blogger who goes around commenting first and nudging you to update. YESSSS her. Happy upcoming birthday girl.

Here Temmy has juicy gist about her ever charming EX. That boy has got game!

Our girl Life through rose tinted glasses is back and has turned 21! Seems like all these parties haven't been working out according to plan apart Tutsy who had a blast....the day after that which she thought was her 'surprise' party. Your friends played you good Tutsy.

Nigerian girls watch out for Uzo's tall and handsome brother who has moved back. Pity he's younger than me, I would have snapped him up myself after reading what she wrote about him.

Just Me had a bad experience on a famous Lagos road a few days back just like I had written about in my Lagos 101 posts. Sorry oh! Please make sure you have you dummy bag in the car in a place where it can be easily reached. Stay careful out there!

Sad news..... these bloggers have lost someone dear to them, show them some love.

Captured

A fellow Shutterchancer took a shot of me at work. See the pic HERE

There was a time when I was grossly unhappy with the fact that I wasn’t seriously curvy. I wanted a bigger butt, bigger boobs, and a coke bottle shape. I would salivate while watching those music videos with the hot girls wearing apple bottom jeans. That darn girl from Ushers video with the amazing backside…you just want to bow when she’s passing by. I got over it I guess, I mean aside from seeing a plastic surgeon to redistribute the fat in my body and taking my last rib out like Janet Jackson allegedly did, there’s nothing I can really do about it.

So what do I do? I accentuate my good features. The captivating eyes, the million dollar smile, the smooth skin and after reading Overwhelmed’s blog…..the oh so sexy bow legs lol. I’ve grown comfortable in my own skin and I don’t fret when a guy says, you’re not my spec, I like girls with big yada yada yada, as people here can be quite blunt. I wish him goodluck, but he sure doesn’t know what he is missing. Seriously though, what do you need more than a handful for? LOL!

I'm Exhausted

Take a look at my photo of the day on my photoblog to see the blushing bride...Kofo. I was a hostess at her wedding on Saturday. I wish her all the good things married life has to offer. Both she and her hubby looked gorgeous or ' jojos' as a lady said at her engagement lol. That lady kept us well entertained. I'll be putting more pictures up on the photoblog during the week so make sure you go back to look each day.

I'm so exhausted because I rocked really hard this holiday. I've gone to the beach, clubbing, get togethers, pool parties, bridal showers, weddings, birthday parties, drinks/lounges, dinner, lunch, teambuilding at work, and end of year parties. I also just got two house guests from Obudu Oyinbo on the 2nd of January and had to resume the rocking. I swear that the other bloggers I met this holiday think I'm a rocket! lol! I met, Onada, Vicki and Kunle from Kunle's life. They are really interesting young ladies and might I add that they are cute?. It’s really a small world.

Well its back to work for me and I'm so not in work mode. I got in at 8.45 today and I really don't have much to do right now. I'm going to work on my new year’s resolutions and goals for 2007 and how I will achieve them.

Meanwhile where is that Babaalaye dude. We have to sanction bloggers who keep us waiting in suspense. What kind of holiday is he on anyway????!!!!!

Oh and this is just a little note to welcome baby B.O Jnr to the world.

Enjoy your week.

Introducing, introducing, introduciiinnnnggg

CRANBERRY CLOTHING LINE

Checkout the blog created by the fashion queens Joan Caven, Oseyi Etomi, and Doreen Caven. Show them some love blog world! Welcome guys.

Oh and those are my cousins modelling the outfits. Aren' t they hot. Yeah it runs in the family!

Meanwhile, I was feeling really hot yesterday at a beach party. We got there fashionably late with our hair windblown, looking cute and feeling special when four guys picked each of us up and threw us in the pool. Apparently its the 'tradition'. No one could really 'feel' after that lol so I had a drink instead to warm my soul. I'm off to the salon to repair the damage done. Later guys.
