To the Left

Here's Beyonces Video. Have you ever dumped someone? I haven't ..more like mutual agreements to end the relationship. I would feel so bad but I guess when you're fed up, you're fed up. But really girls, would you be able to 'keep' a man. She paid his bills, bought his car etc etc. I have never had that kind of relationship, even with a girlfriend! It just seems like he is less of a man...and see the insult when she's throwing him out with his boxes. Guys, can you be kept men?

LOL! I cannot keep a man o! Where is the money?

Seriously, it will cause problems in the relationship and if the man has any pride, he'll start to feel uncomfy.

I AM FIRST!!!

BTW, Beyonce looks H-O-T in this video.

She does look tres HOTTT. I love the way she said " Keep talking that mess thats fine, but could you WALK and talk at the same time". How polite lolll.

I wonder how men feel about keeping women.....

LondonBuki said...

Very polite! LOL!!!

Being in control should help boost a Man's ego ;-)

Hmm. Men dont seem to have too much trouble keeping women. I dare say some think its part of being a man.

I cannot keep a man but then again, if people are in love and he;s struggling, helping out a bit can easily become being his meal ticket.

Who knows....

noooooo.i wouldnt want to keep a man.anything i say may be misinterpreted as an insult.i dont mind having a better paid job but he should do something too

I don't know any woman that can keep a man without thinking she own's the man. Me, I can't do it. I'll leave that to the sugar mommas. BTW, doesn't she have a song on her album called sugar mama? hmm...Beyonce trying to tell us something.

You know I was listening to this song the other day and thinking the exact same thing.
Really nice song but I cant imagine any sane man wanting to be a kept man sha.

Keep a man? Not in this age and time. I am looking for a man to spoil me rotten. A la have he George Clooney looks, Bill Gate's money, Will Smith's sense of humour...the list is endless.

Keep a man, NOPE, i cannot do. Be a kept woman, NOPE! cannot do it either..lol..But, we can spoil each other from time to time. If i love you, ill spoil you, and ive been lucky enough that the recipient of my generousity was also quite generous himself.
And yeah, Bee looks hell hot in that video..my fav part of the song is.."don't u ever for a sec get to thnkn', u're irreplaceable."..Luv it!

@uzo, temporary help to get you on your feet is okay but i'm not sure about continuous support...it just doesn't seem right
@didi, even at that, anything will still be an insult.
@toun, she is schitzo? lol, all those songs are a bit of a contrast but I love B
@mari, I know right? Theres even a show about that...a rich lady looking for a kept man.
@biodun, for loveee?
@temmy lol, one mans meat...I'm sure there are girls who can justify it
@she does look fab! What does she want the rest of us to do now..Kolo? lol

First of all, let me say I absolutely LOVE that video 9it was about time she had a good video, her last few b4 this one were crap! and i'm not a Beyonce hater, I love her work, but i hold her to high standards...)

@londonbuki, you're right, B looks great in this video!

Anyways, I ain't keeping no man, its his job to keep me and take care of me, i'm not a gold digger or anything but that's the man's role in the situation, thats not to say I wouldn't support my man if or when he needed me, but it wouldn't be a permanent thing where i would be the provider for everything...

Perhaps this ought to be one of the official songs of the feminist movement? Okay, I'm joking.

I'm in a decidely bad mood tonight -- my humor's been in bad taste.

My mom's Pop was extremely wealthy.
My Pop's Pop owned a small Mango farm.

Pop switched on the charm, married my Mom(...well, he knocked her up first.)

Rich Grandad sens his daughter to England to School, well he had to pay for his razz son in law too.

They both lived happily ever after in Rich Grand Pop's House on Park Lane.

Finally Pop gets a JOB, end the night of his first paycheck he struts into the house and announces "I'm moving to my apartment.I'm tired of this rubbish. It may be small, the heater might break down every now and then, but it;s my House. You can stay here if you want i don't bloody care.Your father cannot dictate how i run my home"

Dictate ke? After 4 years of Welfare Duh!!!

@ Mona, I love it too
@ DD, I agree with you, it wouldnt work out in the end and I seriously think that.
@ Belle, lol very unbecoming
@ Azuka, being a feminist is not neccessarily male bashing

Firstly I dont understand how men will allow themselves to be kept - But then again who doesnt want an easy life - ooh well -

But no self respecting man would -

Anonymous said...

Where would the traditional definition of an independent man be? well we live in a strange world, and people love to use one's vulnerability, there might be some feature that inspires the lady to be able to afford to 'keep' the man. But the deal is, a man shouldnt be kept!!

Unknown said...

Keep a man? God forbid bad thing!! In this day and age? No self respecting man will allow himself to be kept. But then, K-Fed, Chris judd, (J-Lo's former husband) have been there and dont have nice stories to tell.

Unknown said...

These kept men self have no shame - living off a lady. Whatever happened to the old adage of the man looking after the lady? K-Fed, L-Lo's ex husband hve been there, seen it all and dont have nice stories. No self respecting man ever does that cos one day, the ladies eyes will open and the scales will drop from their eyes.

It's strange how females shift philosophies to suit their positions.

In a world that preaches feminism and the equality of sexes, how does it matter who does the 'keeping'?.
Tradition? The Yoruba race up until a few generations ago was a matriarchal society.

ps. I'm not a kept man.

pps. Nice postings, minx.

For me, the song, like most Beyonce's is crappy...

Is that Mekhi Pfifer in the video? Never a sufficient close up for me to confirm, so I don't know if those numerous bowls of garri back in the day are beginning to take effect. If it is him, it is shocking the downturn his career has taken.

Now to the main issue. On being the kept and being the keeper...

:uhum: (Clears throat, do I sound Igbo enough?)

There are two sides to this coin: I have always tended to look at kept women with scorn and disdain, nothing more than glorified whores, although in some cases one has to sympathize with them and the situations that landed them there. You see, there are some who genuinely had it rough, and as a result the only way out for them is to become kept. You see, not everyone has a strong will. The other party in that particular relationship, the man who is the keeper, and you find in most cases such men have wife/wives at home is the one that I tend to really wonder at. Why? What is in this other woman that your wife doesn't give you? In most cases you don't want a child from her which is why you hide her away from society, so what is it that she gives you?

Sadly, the answer to that one from the vast majority of such men is this: she makes me feel young. Jaizuz!!!

The other side of the coin, kept men. I only have one thing to say to them: yuck!

I have absolutely nothing to say to women who are keepers.

This rant would make a good post for me blog...

BABE, YOU STOLE MY TOPIC!!! (lol) Seriously though, I was going to write a blog called to the left. You know I hadn't heard the song until I watched the video on your blog , I know where have I been

Through these eyes said...

Wow, she totally did jack this topic out of our hands. LOL..just kidding. I actually have a post about Jay-Z and Beyonce ish. But talks about the Lost Ones and controversy behind it. Would love your input.

The whole fallacy with this "to the left" song is that she gets another guy almost like him by the end of the video. Why not get a better guy who has more stuff than in the box to the left.
